Youhana cracks ton in massive Pakistan total
KARACHI: Yousuf Youhana scored his second hundred in five days time to power Pakistan to a commanding total of 275 in the first One day International against New Zealand on Sunday at the National Stadium.
Youhana fresh from his 129 runs in the Sharjah Cup final against Sri Lanka last Wednesday stroked his way to a classy 125 from 155 balls to prevent the Pakistan innings from falling apart.
He reached his sixth One-day hundred and his third this year in 12 matches while playing with a runner after aggravating a groin problem.
Youhana had hit 14 fours and a six, which was a superb hit over long on off leg spinner Brooke Walker, when he was finally dismissed caught at deep cover by Brooke Walker in the 48th over while trying to slog Jacob Oram.
The 27 year old drove the second ball of the 43rd over by Craig McMillan for a single to reach his century from 138 balls with 10 fours and one six.
Youhana received excellent support from Younis Khan 69 in a fourth wicket stand of 161 runs from 192 balls after New Zealand had done well to dismiss openers Shahid Afridi and Imran Nazir in third over.
Playing without skipper Stephen Fleming out with a stomach bug, New Zealand had Pakistan struggling on 3 for 59 in 15 overs after the home side also lost their premier batsman Inzamam-ul-Haq in the 13th over.
Youhana and Younis steadied the innings with their second successive century partnership after the Sharjah final, as stand in skipper McMillan used eight bowlers in the energy sapping hot and humid conditions on a perfect batting track.
Cheered on by a near full house, Youhana looked in majestic form the moment he walked in to bat on the final ball of the third over having watched the openers fall at the total of 15 runs.
He opened up after clocking up an 86 balls 50 in 110 minutes and along with Younis 69 from 81 balls picked up the scoring rate considerably after the 100 of the innings came up in the 25th over.
Pakistan put on 124 runs in the last 15 overs, Youhana and Abdul Razzaq putting on 37 runs in 26 balls.
