Australia crush Kenya by eight wickets

NAIROBI: Australia beat Kenya by eight wickets in their one-day limited overs match at the Nairobi Gymkhana club Monday.

Matthew Hayden hit 40 runs not out after Australia had bowled out Kenya for a paltry 84 in 35.3 overs.

It was Kenya's lowest total in One-day Internationals.

The world champions easily reached their target off just 17 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Kenya dismissed for lowest score of 84

NAIROBI: Kenya were dismissed for their lowest ever score of 84 by world champions Australia in the fourth match of a triangular one-day tournament on Monday.

Kenya's previous lowest was 90 against India last year in a tri-nation tournament in South Africa.

At one stage Kenya were 17 for six but Brijal Patel hit 28 to add some respectability to the total.

After winning the toss, Australia's opening bowlers Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath ripped through Kenya's top and middle order, sharing six wickets within 20 overs.

Captain Steve Tikolo (4), Thomas Odoyo (0) and Maurice Odumbe (0) were dismissed in the 12th, 13th and 14th overs as Kenya's batting, which badly missed injured pair of Ravindu Shah and Hitesh Modi, succumbed to Australia's pace attack.

McGrath finished with 3-8 off eight overs. Gillespie took three for 40 off 10 while leg-spinner Shane Warne took one wicket thanks to the stumping of Patel.

Kenya reel at 57-7 after 25 overs

NAIROBI: Australia's opening bowlers Jason Gillespie and Glenn McGrath shared six wickets to leave Kenya reeling at 57 for seven after 25 overs of the fourth match of a triangular tournament on Monday.

Australia, who put the hosts in to bat, were quick to seize control, taking three wickets for 17 runs inside the first 10 overs as Kenya struggled without injured pair Ravindu Shah and Hitesh Modi.

McGrath began the rout, bowling David Obuya for a duck in the third over before Gillespie sent Kennedy Otieno (10) back in the sixth over, caught at fourth slip by Matthew Hayden.

McGrath had James Kamande caught behind before captain Steve Tikolo (4), Thomas Odoyo and Maurice Odumbe, who both failed to score, followed in quick succession.

Tony Suji retired in the 15th over after he was hit on the head by a delivery from McGrath and Collins Obuya soon joined him back in the pavilion, caught behind by Adam Gilchrist off Shane Watson for 13.

Australia elect to bowl first

NAIROBI: Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and chose to bowl first Monday against Kenya in the fourth One-day International of the tri-nation series at the Nairobi Gymkhana. Australia made one change to the team that trounced Pakistan by 224 runs Friday in the second match of the series, replacing Andy Bichel with fellow fast bowler Brett Lee.

Ponting said that Bichel had a "slight groin strain" which led to the late change in what was originally named as an unchanged team. Kenya, already set back by the finger injury that may rule out left-hander Hitesh Modi for the rest of the tournament, have also lost opening batsman Ravindu Shah.

The right-handed Shah suffered a broken toe in net practice on Saturday, but still participated in Sunday's loss to Pakistan.

He is now replaced in the team by Brijal Patel, who will play his first match of the tournament.

Australia and Kenya have only met once before in One-day Internationals - in the 1996 World Cup in India when the Aussies won by 97 runs.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Damien Martyn, Jimmy Maher, Michael Bevan, Shane Watson, Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Jason Gillespie, Glenn McGrath.

Kenya: Steve Tikolo (captain), Kennedy Obuya, David Obuya, Jimmy Kamande, Maurice Odumbe, Thomas Odoyo, Brijal Patel, Tony Suji, Collins Obuya, Martin Suji, Joseph Angara.

Umpires: Russell Tiffin (Zimbabwe), Nadeem Ghauri (Pakistan). 3rd/TV replay umpire: Asad Rauf (Pakistan). ICC Match referee: Mike Procter (South Africa).
