MELBOURNE: Australian defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the first One-day International to go 1-0 up in the three-game series here on Wednesday.
Set to chase a victory target of 177 by Pakistan, the home side managed to score the required runs for the loss of three wickets. Pakistan had scored 176 for the loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 50 overs.

Pakistan restricted to 176-8 v Australia
MELBOURNE, Australia: Pakistan were restricted by tight bowling to 176 for eight wickets from 50 overs in the first one-day cricket international against Australia here Wednesday.
Australian skipper Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to field under floodlights at the enclosed Colonial Stadium.
Opener Imran Nazir, who retired hurt with a forearm injury early in the Pakistan innings, returned to top score for the visitors with 39 from 53 balls. Inzamam ul-Haq contributed 33.
Fast bowler Andy Bichel was the most effective of the Australian bowlers, finishing with three for 30 from his 10 overs.
The series had been billed as the pace showdown between Australia's Brett Lee and Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar but neither played Wednesday's match.
Lee was named as 12th man for Australia, while Shoaib was ruled out with a hip injury.
