Knight gives respectability to England total
CHRISTCHURCH: New Zealand unveiled new fast bowling hope Ian Butler entrusted with the new ball against Nasser Hussain's English side in the first day/night One-day International of five-match series at Jade Stadium on Wednesday.
But the 20-year-old Northern Districts bowler who has played just three first-class matches failed to repeat the heroics of last week-end's warm-up game against England
who were dismissed for 196 off 40.2 overs in the rain-curtailed 42 over-a-side encounter.
Nick Knight was the mainstay of England batting with a resolute 73 runs knock off 70 deliveries which included eleven hits to the boundary. He added 82 valuable runs for the second wicket while batting with Nasser Hussain.
Chris Cairns and Andre Adams captured two wickets each conceding 43 and 25 runs respectively. The Black Caps were to chase the target with the asking rate of 4.69.

England elect to bat first
CHRISTCHURCH: England captain Nasser Hussain won the toss and decided to bat first in the first One-day International of five-match series here on Wednesday. There was a delayed start due to heavy overnight rain and the match has been reduced to 42 over-a-side affair.
Earlier, England captain Nasser Hussain had suffered an injury scare on Tuesday while all rounder Ben Hollioake was ruled out of the first encounter.
Surrey's Hollioake was still troubled by a sore left knee and will sit out the one-dayer.
Hollioake, who picked up the ailment during the recent tour of India, has had tests to rule out a cartilage defect.
Ian Butler is making his debut while playing for New Zealand.
England: Marcus Trescothick, Nick Knight, Nasser Hussain (captain), Graham Thorpe, Paul Collingwood, Andrew Flintoff, Craig White, Ashley Giles, James Foster (wicketkeeper), Andy Caddick, Darren Gough.
New Zealand: Chris Nevin (wicketkeeper), Nathan Astle, Stephen Fleming (captain), Craig McMillan, Lou Vincent, Chris Cairns, Chris Harris, Andre Adams, Daniel Vettori, Daryl Tuffey, Ian Butler.
Umpires: E A Watkin & A L Hill (both New Zealand). TV replays: D M Quested (New Zealand). ICC match referee: D T Lindsay (South Africa).
