In-form Campbell sets up Zimbabwe victory

COCHIN, India: Zimbabwe's Alistair Campbell hit his third successive fifty to help his side beat India by six wickets in the third one-day international on Wednesday and go 2-1 up in the five-match series.

The left-hander struck a well-paced 71 as Zimbabwe coasted to 197 for four in 44.2 overs after dismissing India for a modest 191 in 48.3 overs. In partnership with Grant Flower, who scored 49, the former Zimbabwe captain added 105 for the third wicket to put the Southern Africans firmly on course for victory.

Campbell, who scored 84 and 62 in the first two games against India, struck seven fours and a six in 119 balls efore he was stumped by Ajay Ratra off the spin bowling of Sarandeep Singh in the 34th over.

He was dismissed after ompleting his 29th one-day fifty, but skipper Stuart Carlisle (21) and Craig Wishart (17) eased Zimbabwe to their victory target with 5.6 overs to spare.

Earlier, medium-pacer Douglas Hondo took four for 37 as Zimbabwe dismissed India for a paltry 191 in 48.3 overs.

The 21-year-old removed the three top Indian batsman cheaply after Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly, who made 11, opted to bat on winning the toss for the third time in a row.

India were left reeling at 51 for four in the 13th over before 21-year-old Mohammad Kaif led a recovery, top-scoring with an assured 56 in 78 balls -- his maiden one-day fifty.

Kaif shared in a fifth-wicket stand of 86 with all-rounder Sanjay Bangar (36) to give the Indian total some respectability in the end.

The pair lifted the total above the 150-run mark and gradually took control of an impressive Zimbabwe attack as it tired in sapping humidity.

Kaif hit Mbangwa over midwicket for a six and also struck two fours before Bangar was removed by off-spinner Douglas Marillier after pulling a full toss straight to Hondo at midwicket.

Kaif was dismissed in similar fashion, pulling paceman Heath Streak, as India slumped to 157 for eight in the 40th over.

Harbhajan Singh hit a brisk 24 not out as he and number 11 batsman Zaheer Khan (two) added 22 runs for the 10th wicket.

Marillier finished with two for 44 while left-arm spinner Grant Flower claimed two for 35.

The fourth ame in the series will be played in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Hondo shines as Zimbabwe dismiss India for 191

COCHIN, India: Medium-pacer Douglas Hondo took four for 37 as Zimbabwe dismissed India for a modest 191 in the third one-day international on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old removed the three top Indian batsman cheaply and the home side never fully recovered before being bowled out in 48.3 overs. Hondo's victims included Saurav Ganguly for 11 after the Indian skipper had elected to bat on winning the toss for the third time in a row in the five-match series.

India were left reeling at 51 for four in the 13th over before 21-year-old Mohammad Kaif led a recovery, top-scoring with an assured 56 in 78 balls -- his maiden one-day fifty.

The pair lifted the total above the 150-run mark and gradually took control of an impressive Zimbabwe attack as it tired in sapping humidity.

Kaif hit Mbangwa over midwicket for a six and also struck two fours before Bangar was removed by off-spinner ouglas Marillier after pulling a full toss straight to Hondo at midwicket.

Ganguly won his third toss in a row in the five-match series, but India were in trouble in the fourth over. Hondo, playing as the fourth seamer only because of a hip injury to key batsman Andy Flower, first trapped left-hander Dinesh Mongia leg before for four runs in the fourth over.

The in-form opener seemed unlucky as the ball seemed to have pitched just outside the leg-stump. Vangipurappu Laxman hit two fours in his 24-ball 20 before chasing a wide delivery from Hondo to be caught behind and make it 38 for two in the 10th over.

Hondo then bowled Ganguly as the left-hander, in some discomfort because of a troublesome right knee, jumped out to attempt a big hit only to completely miss the line.

Mbangwa, like Hondo playing his first game of the series, then had the experienced Rahul Dravid (6) edging a cut to slip fielder Craig Wishart, who completed a sharp catch to his left.

Mbangwa then claimed Dravid for only six runs edging a cut, slip fielder Craig Wishart taking a sharp catch to his left.

Hondo removes top three Indian batsmen

COCHIN, India: Zimbabwe medium-pacer Douglas Hondo removed the three top Indian batsman on Wednesday to reduce the home side to 92 for four after 25 overs in the third one-day international.

Hondo's victims included Saurav Ganguly for 11 after the Indian skipper had elected to bat on winning the toss for the third time in a row in the five-match series.

He bowled a superb first spell of eight overs, claiming three for 32, in sapping humidity to leave India reeling at 51 for four in the 13th over.

At the halfway stage Mohammad Kaif was on 29 and Sanjay Bangar had scored 10. Kaif hoisted seamer Mpumulelu Mbangwa for a six over mid-wicket as the last recognised batting pair looked to rebuild the innings.

Mbangwa, like Hondo playing his first game of the series, then had the experienced Rahul Dravid (6) edging a cut to slip fielder Craig Wishart, who completed a sharp catch to his left.

India would have been in further trouble if wicketkeeper Tatenda Taibu, standing up to Mbangwa, had accepted a sharp chance from Kaif.

The Zimbabwe seamers kept a tight line and gained some movement, recovering well after conceding 25 wides in the second Mohali game on Sunday, which India won by 64 runs to level the series 1-1.
