NAIROBI: Pakistan were making heavy weather of overhauling Kenya's modest total of 133, scoring 90 for five after 25 overs of the opening match of a triangular competition on Thursday.

Pakistan lost the first wicket, opener Saeed Anwar, in the first over off Martin Suji's fifth ball without a run on the board.

Kenya's vice captain Thomas Odoyo bowled Imran Nazir in the fourth over and Suji (10-3-22-2) added Shahid Afridi (27) to his victims in the ninth over when Odoyo caught him at third man.

Pakistan were 47 for three in the 10th over compared to Kenya's 36 for four at that stage. Azhar Mahmood (nine) was run out in the 18th over from Jimmy Kamande's throw.

Joseph Angara took the fifth wicket of Abdul Razzaq in the 22nd over with the score on 77.

Kenya all out for 133 against Pakistan

NAIROBI: Opener Kennedy Obuya top scored with a battling 36 as Kenya was dismissed for 133 in 30.3 overs against Pakistan on Thursday in the first match of the one-day international tournament being held in Nairobi.

Abdul Razzaq and Wasim Akram were the best of the Pakistani bowlers, with Razzaq taking four wickets for 35 off his eight overs, while Akram took three for 29 off seven overs.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first on a cloudy morning, Pakistan made early inroads into the Kenyan batting line up with Pakistani skipper Waqar Younis trapping Ravindu Shah leg before wicket in the fourth over for two.

Akram then claimed three quick wickets, trapping both Kenyan captain Steve Tikolo (0) and Thomas Odoyo (4) leg before wicket and bowling Maurice Odumbe for a duck, leaving Kenya on 30 for four in the ninth over.

Just 36 runs - mostly extras - came off the first 10 overs. But Obuya and Hitesh Modi steadied the innings and increased the run rate, taking Kenya past 100 in the 19th over, before Modi was forced off the field after being hit on the finger by fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

Modi had made 34 off 32 balls as he and Obuya shared a partnership of 71.

Obuya was joined by his brother David who faced five balls before being caught by Younis off the bowling off Abdul Razzaq for a duck.

There are three Obuya brothers in the Kenyan team, and Collins Obuya was next out for one, leaving Kenya struggling on 104 for six.

Razzaq bowled Kennedy Obuya in the 24th over, and Modi came back on to the field but was caught behind by Rashid Latif off the same bowler one over later without adding to his score.

Obuya's 36 came off 72 balls. Tony Suji ended not out 17 as Kenya was bowled out with nearly 20 overs left. The tournament, which includes world champion Australia, was supposed to have taken place in Pakistan but was moved to the East African nation because of security concerns. Pakistan started without star batsman Yousuf Youhana who was sent home from the tour on Monday for disciplinary reasons.
