TANGIERS, Morocco: Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by 39 runs in the fourth match of the One-day International triangular series here at National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Jayasuriya missed century by three runs

TANGIERS: Opener Jayasuriya missed a century by three runs as Sri Lanka were bowled out 242 in 49.5 overs against Pakistan in the fourth match of the Morocco Cup cricket tournament here at Tangiers Stadium on Saturday.

Jayasruiya batted with authority and command, hammering delightful fours at will to all parts of the ground on s sunny and pleasant day for the entertainment of a handful crowd before winning the toss and elected to bat.

Pakistani pace attack shone and restricted the Lankan from the usual aggressive stroke play. Captain Waqar Younis led from the front, taking three wickets for 43 runs in 9 overs and paces duo of Wasim Akram and Abdul Razzaq captured two wickets each for 29 and 37 runs off 9.5 and 9 overs.

Jayasuriya's flawless batting put Lankan in command and lifted them out of crisis , 53 for 3 in 13.2 overs , with a strong innings building 101 runs 4th wicket stand with Jayawardene (43). Lankan gained some support from the opening 43 runs partnership in which Jayasuriya associated Atapattu who was run out at (16) Lankan suffered second loss at 47 when Sangakkara (1) was bowled by Waqar and Pakistani bowlers established the initial edge.

Jayasuriya, lost concentration after reaching nervous 90s and an inswinger from Wasim trapped him beg before, folding the highest 4th wicket partnership which came off in 117 balls.

After this major break through Pakistan tightened screws on Lankan by reducing them 174 for 5 and 190 for 6. 

Jayasuriya smashed one six and 12 fours off 94 balls and his departure minimized pressure from the Pakistan. 

Jayawardene survived 62 balls and slammed one six and two fours. Chandana was the 6th batsman out ,lbw by Razzaq who claimed his second wicket. Vass departed after a low contribution of (6) with Sami claiming his wicket at 208 for 7 and at 223 Fernando (8) was bowled by Razzaq who also chipped in his second wicket, Lankan finding it hard to progress to a big total. 

Waqar headed for his third wicket by removing another hurdle Arnold (34) taking a quick catch off his own bowling as Sri Lankan were 238 for 9 with Wasim folding their innings having Murlitharan (7).

Sri Lanka decided to bat v Pakistan

TANGIERS: Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat in the second round match of the Morocco Cup against Pakistan here Saturday at Tangiers Stadium.

Pakistan played the same side which beat Sri Lanka by 28 runs and Lankan fielded the same team which beat South Africa by 93 runs.

Pakistan: Saeed Anwar, Imran Nazir, Yousaf Youhana, Inzamam ul Haq, Younis Khan, Abdul Razzaq, Rashid Latif, Shahid Afridi, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Muhammad Sami.

Sri Lanka: Sanath Jayasuriya (captain), Marwan Atapattu, Kumar Sangaakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Aravinda De Silvs, Russel Arnold, Upul Chandana, Chaminda Vass, Dilhara Fernando, Muttiah Muralitharan and Pulsathi Gunaratne.
