Kallis rescues South Africa
TANGIERS: Jacques Kallis made his first half century in four appearances on Monday to lead South Africa to 220 for six against Sri Lanka in the Morocco Cup triangular tournament on Monday. Kallis scored 84 from 125 balls with seven fours and one six to help his team recover from another poor start which left them precariously placed on 119-5.
Sri Lanka rested all four frontline bowlers for a match that has no significance to the tournament with both teams already qualified for Wednesday's final but medium pacer Buddhika Fernando took his opportunity with the new ball by claiming the first two wickets in the opening five overs.
Herschelle Gibbs (1) was caught by Russel Arnold at slip and Gary Kirsten, unusually batting at number three, was bowled off an inside edge to give South Africa early problems at 11-2.
Leg spinner Upul Chandana was the pick of the makeshift attack, however, finishing with three for 32 from 10 overs.
He bowled opener Graeme Smith (40) with a huge turner, had Boeta Dippenaar (18) caught at the wicket and then added Justin Ontong's wicket to his collection, stumped by Kumar Sangakkara for seven. Lance Klusener continued his sedate tournament with an unbeaten 39 from 62 balls while Shaun Pollock hit Sanath Jayasuriya for two sixes in the final over of the innings to finish on 16 not out from just nine deliveries.
