Hughes, Hookes invited to play against England

SYDNEY: Former Test players Kim Hughes, David Hookes and Wayne Clark have received invitations to play against England in the annual ACB Chairman's XI match at Lilac Hill in Perth on October 22, the Australian Cricket Board said on Friday.

The selectors named a 15-man squad for the traditional Ashes tour opener, with Hughes, Hookes and Clark yet to confirm their availability. Hookes, now coaching Victoria, and Hughes are weighing up their personal schedules, while Clark is expected to play.

Former Test stars have become a regular feature of the one-day match, with Dennis Lillee, Graeme Wood and Bruce Reid playing when England won by one run on the last tour in 1998-99.

The Chairman's XI squad contains five players with Test experience, including Murray Goodwin, Jo Angel and Matt Nicholson. The Lilac Hill match is one of three matches scheduled for Nasser Hussain's England squad in Perth before it heads to Brisbane to continue preparations for the first Test at the Gabba from November 7.

ACB Chairman's XI: Jo Angel, Ryan Campbell, Michael Clark, Murray Goodwin, Kade Harvey, Brad Hogg, Mike Hussey, Shaun Marsh, Scott Meuleman, Matthew Nicholson, Marcus North, Luke Ronchi, Callum Thorp, Brad Williams and Paul Wilson (squad to be reduced).
