Clarke wins place in Australia A team to play England
MELBOURNE: Selectors included young batsman Michael Clarke on Monday in the Australia A team to play England in a three-day match starting on Friday in Hobart.
Clarke, 21, made centuries for New South Wales in successive interstate four-day matches against Queensland and South Australia last month.
The former Australia under-19 captain is considered a potential long-term replacement at Test level for his New
South Wales team mate Mark Waugh.
The 37-year-old Waugh retired from Test cricket two weeks ago after he was replaced by 32-year-old South
Australia captain Darren Lehmann in the side for the first Ashes Test.
Queensland captain Jimmy Maher, 28, a left-hand batsman who has played 14 one-day internationals for Australia but no Tests, will lead the Australia A side.
Australia A: Jimmy Maher (captain), Greg Blewett (vice-captain), Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Matthew Elliott, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Martin Love, Ashley Noffke, Marcus North, Brad Williams (12th man to be named).
