Miller leads SA fightback against Victoria

ADELAIDE, Australia: South Australian all-rounder Michael Miller took four wickets to lead a fightback late on the opening day of their Sheffield Shield match with Victoria at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday.

In reply to SA's first innings total of 149, Victoria were 94 for 7 at stumps, trailing the hosts by 55 on the first innings.

Victoria looked in control after dismissing SA in two sessions. Only former Test batsman Greg Blewett (36) and Mark Higgs (33) offered any resistance to a tight, well-drilled Victorian bowling attack.

Blewett's wicket sparked a major late-order collapse, with the last six SA wickets falling for 24. Paceman Will Carr finished with 4 for 42. Victoria started solidly, with captain Matthew Elliott (25) and Jason Arnberger putting on an opening stand of 37, but they lost 57 for 7 in the final 23 overs. Miller was the chief destroyer with 4 for 22. Graeme Rummans was not out on 27 at stumps.

Scores: South Australia 149 (G Blewett 36, M Higgs 33; W Carr 4-42) v Victoria 94-7 (G Rummans 27*, M Elliott 25; M Miller 4-22).
