Woolmer to conduct coaching course in Lahore

ISLAMABAD: Former South African coach Bob Woolmer will conduct a special course for coaches, being arranged by the Asian Cricket Council here from Monday.

Woolmer, who is the high performance manager of the ICC, will act as tutor and will be accompanied by three assistants, Justin Durandt, Sheryl Calder and Clinton Gahweiler. There will be a team of six ACC officials who will also pass on valuable tips during the eight-day course scheduled to conclude on October 28.

The notables in the delegation are Iqbal Sikander (Pakistan), Roger Binny (India), Ramesh Ratnayake (Sri Lanka) and Dr Vece Paes (UAE).

Around 19 coaches from Malaysia, Qatar, the Maldives, Oman, Hong Kong, Singapore, Nepal, the UAE, Kuwait, Sri Lanka and Pakistan will attend the clinic in which they will be briefed on the role of coach, physiology (both practical and theory), vision in cricket, batting (both practical and theory), batting assignments, bowling actions, fast bowling, swing bowling, spin bowling, bowling game plans, one-day cricket skills, field placing and innovation, multi-day cricket skills, wicketkeeping, fielding drills, group caching, nets coaching, etc.

On the opening day, Zakir Hussain Syed, Development Manager. ACC, Andrew Eade, ICC Global Development perspective, and Woolmer will make speeches before Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, who will inaugurate the course.

Ehsan Mani will be the chief Guest at the closing ceremony. The following coaches will attend the course: 

V ijayalingam (Malaysia), Sohail Pasha (Qatar), Ibrahim Hussain (Maldives), Mohammad Asim (Oman), Tabarak Dar (Hong Kong), Brendon Kuruppu (Singapore), Sunoj Bhattarai (Nepal), Mohammad Hyder (UAE), Ayub Sheikh (Kuwait), emantha Devapriya (Sri Lanka), Haroon Rasheed, Shahid Aslam, Farrukh Zaman, Raj Hans, Rashid Khan, Azhar Khan, Jalaluddin (all from Pakistan).
