World Cup hero Klusener must fight for place
CENTURION: Lance Klusener, man of the tournament in the 1999 World Cup, was on Tuesday given a clear warning
that he will have to fight for his place in the 2003 tournament. Klusener, dropped from the South African Test and
one-day sides after a run of poor form, was picked to play for South Africa A against the touring Sri Lankans in
Potchefstroom on Saturday.
Nine full internationals were picked for the A side in what amounts to a trial before a five-match series of one-day
internationals between South Africa and Sri Lanka starting in Johannesburg on November 27. Klusener was one of
four 1999 World Cup players picked for the A side, the others were Gary Kirsten, Daryll Cullinan and Steve Elworthy.
Cullinan was picked for a representative side for the first time since walking out on the South African team over a
contract dispute before the second Test against Australia in Cape Town last season.
South Africa A: Neil McKenzie (captain), Gary Kirsten, Daryll Cullinan, Martin van Jaarsveld, Justin Ontong, Lance
Klusener, Robin Peterson, Thami Tsolekile, Charl Langeveldt, Steve Elworthy, Monde
Zondeki.
