Ashraful returns to BD squad against Windies

DHAKA: Young batsman Mohammad Ashraful has returned to the Bangladesh squad for the home one-day series against the West Indies, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials said on Thursday.

The Caribbeans will arrive in Dhaka on November 25 to play two Tests and three one-day internationals in Dhaka and Chittagong. The Bangladesh Cricket Board will name the Test squad later.

Ashraful, who made a century on his Test debut, was dropped for the tour of South Africa in October. "We don't have quality cricketers to face the world class stars, but have picked up the best possible side keeping in view the World Cup in South Africa next year," said chief selector Aliul Islam.

He said three changes had been made to the team that toured South Africa. Javed Omar has been replaced by Ehsanul Haque, all-rounder Khaled Mahmud by former captain and all-rounder Naimur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam by Mohammad Ashraful.

Bangladesh have played 15 Tests, losing 14 and drawing one since achieving Test status in 2000.

Squad: Khaled Mashud (captain), Al-Shahriar, Hannan Sarkar, Ehsanul Haque, Habibul Bashar, Sanwar Hossain, Alok Kapali, Mohammad Rafique, Manjurul Islam, Talha Jubair, Tapas Baishya, Mohammad Ashraful, Naimur Rahman and Tushar Imran.
