Indian camp for Asia Cup
probables begins
CHENNAI: The second and final preparatory camp for the Asia
Cup-bound 20 short-listed cricketers began at the M.A. Chidambaram
stadium on Saturday.
The Sourav Ganguly-led team will take part in the six-team
tournament at Colombo from July 16-Aug 1.
Syed Kirmani's five-man national selection panel would announce the
final team, comprising 14 or 15 players, Tuesday after a 30-over
match among the probables.
The entire support staff of Team India - coach John Wright,
physiotherapist Andrew Leipus, trainer Gregory Allan King and their
assistants - would be in attendance at the camp.
Eight pace bowlers have been summoned from the local MRF Pace
Foundation and the Bangalore-based National Cricket Academy of BCCI
to bowl at the net sessions.
They are: Munaf Patel, Avishkar Salvi, S.S. Paul, Siddarth Trivedi,
Sreeshant, Joginder Sharma, N.C. Aiyappa and Gagandeep Singh.
The first camp was held from June at Bangalore.
The probables: Sourav Ganguly (captain), Rahul Dravid
(vice-captain), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S. Laxman,
Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Kaif, Parthiv Patel, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan
Singh, Murali Kartik, Ramesh Powar, Hemang Badani, Zaheer Khan,
Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Amit
Bhandari and Rohan Gavaskar.
