Harbhajan keen to do well in Asia Cup

CHENNAI: Having recovered from his injury, India's ace-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Saturday said the support he received from senior team members and coach during the lay-off period will boost his confidence during the forthcoming Asia Cup cricket tournament.

"It is very important to get support from senior members of the team and the coach. Obviously, it will boost my confidence," Harbhajan told reporters.

Harbhajan, who celebrated his 25th birthday today, said the kind words from his team mates had made him more determined to make a successful comeback in the international cricket.

"The way they have been talking about me everyday since the Bangalore camp shows that they want me to come back and play well," the off-spinner said.

"My main aim is that I have to work hard and deliver good things for my country. Naturally, I have been working hard towards that goal and awaiting the matches to start. Hopefully, everything will work fine for me," said the 'Turbanator'.

Asked whether he was confident of securing a place in the team, he said "see, I have been talking about my performance. I have to get that break. I wanted to start again. I will be thinking to play one-day match first before the Test series. So, everything will be new.

"Let us hope for the best. John wright and captain Sourav Ganguly have supported me. During the injury period BCCI and others have all supported me. They have said that I have been part of the team," he said.

"I will try my best to perform well to the extent I was performing earlier. The same I will try to repeat," he said.

Refusing to talk about his injury, the off-spinner said "it will be better if you do not talk about injury, I have left it behind and I am quite well now and waiting for the match."

Harbhajan said it was a great feeling to be back at the camp after a long gap of a half year.

"Regarding the camp, it has started on a good day because it is my birthday. I have turned 25 today. This start is excellent, I feel good.

"Last six months, I have been out of the game. I have come back. I feel good to be back in the camp. It is great that you are back in the team," he said.

On having any long-term goal of taking 500 wickets, he said "I do not have any such goal of taking 500 wickets. I go step by step. I have already taken 150 wickets. My first aim is to get 200 wkts. So, let us see after that."
