Parthiv Patel fined for dissenting umpire's decision

LAHORE: Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel was fined 60 per cent of his match fees by the International Cricket Council referee Ranjan Madugalle on Tuesday for showing dissent with the umpire's decision during the second Test match against Pakistan.

Madugalle, a former Sri Lankan Test cricketer, summoned Patel for a disciplinary hearing at the team hotel after the second day's play.

Two umpires - Steve Bucknor of the West Indies and Simon Taufel of Australia - reported Patel to the referee.

Patel was accompanied for the hearing by captain Rahul Dravid and team manager Ratnakar Shetty.

This was Patel's first violation of the ICC's code of conduct for players. He escaped with a minor penalty.

Tuesday's play featured several loud appeals from Indian fielders.

Bucknor rejected two confident appeals for leg before wicket - one each against captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and vice-captain Yousuf Youhana.

Youhana also survived a loud shout for a caught by wicketkeeper Patel off leg-spinner Anil Kumble, which was turned down by Taufel.

The day finished with Pakistan at 355 for three - a lead of 68 against India's first innings score of 287.

India leads the Test series 1-0 after winning last week's opening match by an innings and 52 runs.
