PCB upset with its sponsors

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Cricket Board has lodged a strong protest with Samsung, the title sponsors of the current series with India, complaining about the rash behaviour of a senior representative of the company in Pakistan.

Officials of the Board, particularly its CEO Rameez Raja, were peeved at a letter written to PCB chief Shahrayar Khan by Samsung's local representative, Arshad Gillani, who alleged that guests of the company were not treated well and not given entry during one of the matches in Lahore.

Gillani was upset when PCB officials denied permission to some of his guests to watch a match at Lahore.

In a strongly-worded letter to Shaharyar Khan, Gillani complained that the main sponsors were not treated well and attacked Rameez over many other issues as well, the report said.

The letter was then released to a section of the press which put off the PCB chief so much so that he ordered an internal inquiry to find out if Gillani was justified in his tirade.

Following the inquiry, PCB took strong notice of the letter and Rameez, in particular, asked senior representatives of Samsung to sort out the matter with Gillani as the Board was no longer interested in talking to him directly on any issue, the report said.

Meanwhile, senior officials of Samsung from India have assured the Board that they would be sorting out the matter with their representative.
