I can't hold a bat: Vajpayee
NEW DELHI: India's prime minister on Monday
congratulated the national cricket team for its latest win over
Pakistan during their groundbreaking tour, saying he couldn't hold a
bat but had told the team to win matches as well as hearts.
"The Indian cricket team had met me before leaving for the tour
and sought my blessings," Atal Bihari Vajpayee said in a speech
in Maharajgunj, a town in northern Uttar Pradesh state, Press Trust
of India reported. "In sports there can be wins and defeats.
But I thought what blessing should I give when I can't even hold a
cricket bat?" he said adding, "I told them go to Pakistan
and win there."
