Pakistan have turned the corner says Waqar

NAIROBI: Pakistan cricket captain Waqar Younis said here Sunday that his team's seven-wicket landslide victory over Kenya in the third match of the triangular one day tournament was a turning point for his troubled side.

Pakistan had no trouble in reaching the target of 180 with Younis Khan hitting an impressive 87 not out as they won with over 10 overs to spare - earlier Kenyan opener Kenneth Obuya had top scored with 59 for the hosts.

However Waqar was keener to praise his bowling attack, particularly Shahid Afridi, which had taken a pasting at the hands of the Australians on Friday.

"We bowled very well, which was very pleasing," said the 30-year-old.

Unlike in the two previous matches in the series against Kenya and Australia, Afridi, showed he is no mean all-rounder as he starred with bat and ball.

Having taken 2-33 he laid the base for Pakistan's victory with his contribution of 31 runs before he was caught by third man Martin Suji off Joseph Angara in the 12th over with the score at 54-3.

But it was Younis Khan's brilliant innings that eased the pressure on Pakistan.

Khan brought up his 50 from 63 balls, which consisted of seven fours, and together with Misbah Ul Haq, the pair struck an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 127 runs.

Misbah-ul-Haq was one of the changes as Waqar Younis tried to make a winning balance for his side.

After two losses, hosts Kenya have virtually bowed out of contention from the series.

Steve Tikolo's side will play for pride against World champions, Australia, in the fourth match of the series on Monday.
