Gilchrist sets world record
for one-day catches
NAIROBI: Adam Gilchrist has claimed the world record for
the most catches in one-day cricket internationals,
passing wicketkeeper Ian Healy's mark during Australia's
victory over Pakistan on Wednesday in Nairobi.
Gilchrist took two catches in the match to take his
career tally to 195 - one ahead of his Australian
predecessor.
However, Healy remains ahead in overall fielding
dismissals in ODIs, with 39 stumpings in his career
tally of 233.
Gilchrist, who has 33 stumpings, is just five dismissals
short of this Australian record.
After Healy, the only player standing between Gilchrist
and the world record is former Pakistan wicketkeeper
Moin Khan, with 257 ODI dismissals (191 caught, 66
stumped).
Australia's solid one-day schedule - including the ICC
Champions Trophy later this month and the VB Series at
home this summer - means Gilchrist is likely to pass the
mark before or during the 2003 World Cup.
