Caddick out of One-day
series
LONDON: Paceman Andrew Caddick was ruled out of the
triangular One-day series between England, Sri Lanka and
India on Tuesday after seeing a specialist in Nottingham
about an injury to his left side.
England have already lost batsman Mark Butcher, who will
need three or four weeks to recover from knee surgery
planned for Thursday, the England and Wales Cricket
Board (ECB) said.
However, another front-line pace bowler, Darren Gough,
was recovering well from knee surgery and could be
available for the series. The ECB reported that he was
practising with Yorkshire on Tuesday and would play
Academy and second XI matches with his county over the
next week. Caddick injured his side during the 10-wicket
win over Sri Lanka in the third Test at Old Trafford.
Monday's win gave England a 2-0 series victory but
Caddick was restricted to 5.3 overs on Saturday at the
start of Sri Lankan first innings before having to leave
the field.
England spokesman Andrew Walpole said the injury would
require four to six weeks' rest, adding that if it
responded to treatment Caddick could be fit for the
first of the three Tests against India starting on July
25.
The 10-match One-day series begins with England facing
Sri Lanka at Nottingham on June 27 in one of three
day-night games. The final is at Lord's on July 13.
