Ganguly concerned over the
outcome of triangular
LONDON: After booking their place with victory over Sri
Lanka, India captain Sourav Ganguly admits he would
prefer a three-match final in the NatWest Cricket
Series.
"We would love to have a best-of-three finals, as
it happens in Australia. It gives a fair chance to both
the teams," said Ganguly.
"It is going to be anybody's game (in a one-off
final), as it happens in one-day cricket, because you
don't have time to get back.
The final against England will be played on July 13 at
Lord's. India have already completed a double-header
weekend and will have only one day between their last
group match at Bristol and the match at Lord's.
"There is no point in complaining", Ganguly
stoically added.
"It is not the first time it has happened. We
played before like this in South Africa also".
India lead the points table in the NatWest series,
having won three of their four matches and having the
fourth washed out. "This is probably the first time
we have won abroad so consistently. But I don't want to
compare with different sides," the captain said.
"It was the reason we were looking to bat deep. It
was one of the reasons for (Sachin) Tendulkar coming at
number four and (Rahul) Dravid at five.
"It has worked well so far but it is too early to
pass a judgement. You have to judge over a period of
time, not in two to three games", Ganguly warned.
