No one doubted Waqar's judgement, says Ponting

MELBOURNE: Australian skipper Ricky Ponting said on Saturday that no one on the field questioned Pakistan captain Waqar Younis' judgement on a 'catch' off middle-order batsman Damien Martyn's bat during the second Tower Series Challenge one-dayer here at the Colonial Stadium.

"It's a tough one. I'm not doubting Waqar at all," Ponting said. "A lot of people have different opinions about it. I'm a bit of a believer if the camera's there you might as well use it."

Australia's innings could have ended a lot sooner had Martyn been prepared to take Waqar at his word when the Pakistan captain claimed a catch at mid-on when Martyn was on seven with the score at 22 for two. The video umpire eventually ruled not out, much to Waqar's disappointment, although he was diplomatic when asked about the incident. "I thought I had caught it nice and clear. I didn't have any doubt," Waqar told the post-match news conference. "I haven't seen it yet (on video). That's the way it goes. I thought he (Martyn) was going to walk but he thought there was a doubt so that's why he stopped."

Asked if he was disappointed that the Australian stood his ground, Waqar said: "Of course I was. He took his chance and it came his way. Maybe it was a bit too far for him to judge if it carried or not. The technology is there to use."

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq, who limped his way to 24 runs before he missed a wild slog and was bowled by Andrew Bichel, has a minor knee injury and will be assessed for Wednesday's deciding third game, Waqar said.
